Internship Journey

Securing a field experience opportunity proved to be a challenging yet rewarding

process. After meticulously researching companies aligning with my preferences and house location, I prepared multiple cover letters to suit each company's profile.

I searched on Humber's suggested sites and Google Maps to identify potential internship locations. I also delivered resumes personally, which allowed me to engage with some owners, providing insights into their operations.

Out of the three interview opportunities, the one with a bakery just two blocks from my house appealed to me the most. However, as the bakery wasn't affiliated with Humber College, I discussed this with the owner, a former George Brown student, who kindly agreed to proceed. After a meeting with Andrew Bascow, the responsible party at Humber, he took the necessary steps and engaged in discussions with the bakery owner, leading to the approval of my application for field experience at Di Manno Bakery.

Setting clear goals became my next step upon entering the bakery. These include:

Assisting the Pastry Chef in preparing a diverse range of bakery and pastry products to meet the bakery's and clients's needs.

Identifying and producing baking and pastry items in line with industry trends.

Supporting the goals of the pastry and baking operation, applying kitchen management skills responsibly.

Collaborating with the Pastry Chef in creating menu items within the planned budget. This field experience at Di Manno Bakery aligns with my aspirations, and I am eager to contribute to the success of the team.
